Common Questions About Learning Erhu
Absolutely! There's no age limit for learning erhu. I've taught students ranging from 5 to 70 years old. Children usually achieve better results after age 6 when their finger development is more mature; adults learn with better comprehension and can progress quickly too. What matters most is a love for music and consistent practice.
This depends on practice frequency and individual aptitude. Generally, with at least 30 minutes of daily practice, students can play simple pieces in 3-6 months; intermediate-level pieces in 1-2 years; and achieve advanced proficiency in 3-5 years. My teaching methods focus on efficiency, helping students reach their goals faster.
Both have their advantages. In-person lessons allow direct demonstration and posture correction, ideal for beginners; online lessons offer schedule flexibility and save commute time, especially suitable for students with some foundation. My online courses use professional equipment to ensure quality audio and video, and the teaching effectiveness has been recognized by many students.
Beginners can start with a mid-range erhu; there's no need for expensive instruments initially. I can provide purchasing advice based on your budget and needs. Besides the erhu itself, you'll need rosin, spare strings, and a case. I'll provide detailed guidance on selection and preparation before classes begin.
