The legendary journey of a martial arts master
Master Yang Longfei began his martial arts training at the age of 6 in Hohhot (Inner Mongolia). He trained under his grandfather Yang Jianjiu in Yang-style Tai Chi and push hands. Yang Jianjiu was a 4th generation Yang-style Tai Chi master, a traditional Chinese doctor, and a general in the Taiwanese army, who maintained a strict and intensive daily training regimen.
He then focused on hard-style external martial arts, including Shaolin "Iron Palm," "Iron Fist," and "Iron Body." He also deeply studied Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do and "Drunken Fist."
After years of rigorous training, Master Yang's martial arts skills matured, and he turned his attention to internal energy cultivation to better understand his body, strengthen his internal power, and elevate his martial arts to a higher level. He studied internal Seven Star Praying Mantis under 5th generation master Li Shusen, and trained under 12th generation Chen-style Tai Chi master Dong Xishen.
Master Yang Longfei is the first certified Shanxi Seven Star Praying Mantis instructor to establish a martial arts school outside mainland China. He is also the creator of "InnerFlow Tai Chi," which focuses on health and wellness.
He has appeared on television programs in South Africa and the United States, and published articles in Black Belt Magazine and other publications. He produced and starred in multiple instructional videos, directed martial arts action scenes in American and Canadian films, and authored several books including "Introduction to Chinese Martial Arts" and "Shanxi Seven Star Praying Mantis." He has served as an international martial arts competition judge since 1999.
In 2001, Master Yang won the International Traditional Chinese Martial Arts Competition championship. In 2009, he earned runner-up at the NTD International Chinese Traditional Martial Arts Competition. In South Africa, he was renowned for his full-contact fighting and bodyguard training programs. He even personally served as a bodyguard for Michael Jackson's concert. Master Yang served as head coach of the 1998 South African National Kung Fu Team, which won that year's award.
Since 2005, Master Yang has been teaching in New York City. In 2008, he founded Xin Wu Men to promote Chinese culture and philosophy worldwide. Today, Xin Wu Men students span the globe and have won numerous awards in international competitions.
Currently, he is actively spreading traditional Chinese martial arts culture in multiple ways. In addition to regular martial arts classes, he created "InnerFlow Tai Chi" (formerly "Zen Tai Chi"), a personalized Tai Chi technique especially suited for professionals in finance, technology, and other industries — particularly those who spend long hours at desks. He was invited to perform Chinese martial arts during Macy's Asian Culture Month, and was hired by EmblemHealth to provide weekly classes for employees, families, and clients.
For 12 years, he has been teaching InnerFlow Tai Chi at 14 Korean community health and senior centers in New York, improving the health of thousands of elderly individuals.
He has hosted healthy lifestyle workshops for cancer patients at Gilda's Club NYC, teaching traditional Chinese wellness practices. He also regularly travels to Central and South America for teaching. He offers both private and group lessons.
A feature-length documentary about Master Yang Longfei is currently in production, focusing on his lifelong martial arts journey and his extraordinary efforts teaching martial arts overseas. His footsteps span Asia, South Africa, South America, and North America. He once traveled deep into the Colombian Amazon rainforest to a hidden temple to train students for international martial arts competitions — an experience showcasing the beauty of multicultural exchange.
